MEET Alice
BeauVamp is an independent, British lighting brand set up by Founder Alice Moylan in 2007. Proudly specialising in hand stitched, pleated lampshades, combining traditional sewing techniques with contemporary style.
Inspired by the interior aesthetic and lampshade shapes of bygone eras, in particular the Arts & Crafts movement in the early 19th Century, Alice set about investigating a range of almost forgotten crafting methods. After many months of research, the beginnings of a new brand were formed, offering a completely new take on the old fashioned lampshade, drawing and designing her own shapes from concept to completion.
Initially created for her own house renovation, she quickly received requests from a range of high end interior designers, hotels and international restaurants seeking that special statement piece. Fabrics including sustainable silks, linens and cottons are carefully pleated and hand sewn around each frame, and it is these special pleating skills that have become one of Beauvamp's signature techniques.
“I became fascinated with how the fabric had been stretched and stitched to the old Victorian frames. I decided to research these lost application methods of the past and so it became my mission to embark on rebuilding and reviving those old traditional sewing techniques, which are now embedded in the heart of the business. It’s an ever evolving journey that I’m so pleased to be on, plus getting to work with local artisans and businesses has been key to allowing each design to develop organically, resulting in a uniquely crafted product."
Alice has also created an array of specially commissioned fringes and braids made here in the UK to complement each lampshade collection including her hand dipped Ombré range and a new variety of handloomed linen fringing.
Beauvamp's signature TIFFANY Collection was launched in 2018 showcasing a range of scallop and straight edge frames, dressed in lustrous handwoven silks and fringing inspired by the roaring 1920’s Art Deco era. This year Alice has just launched her new TIFFANY RUFFLE Collection to further complement her frame shapes, giving them a truly original and contemporary twist.
Each lampshade is made with the utmost care and attention to detail using only the best quality fabrics, threads and trims to create a range of unique heirlooms for generations to come.
