Alice Moylan of Beauvamp specialises in designing and making handstitched lampshades, combining traditional sewing techniques with vintage inspiration and contemporary style.

Beauvamp brings together a celebration of heritage, craftsmanship and slow, thoughtful design.

Inspired by the interior aesthetic and lampshade shapes of bygone eras, in particular the Arts & Crafts movement in the early 19th Century, Alice has explored a range of almost forgotten crafting methods and in the process has enjoyed creating her own take on the old-fashioned lampshade, drawing and designing her own shapes from concept to completion.

Her handstitched collections have taken inspiration from the early Victorian designs through to the Art Deco and Art Nouveau eras, perfecting the art of fabric pleating whilst embellishing with braids, fringing and ruffles, leading right through to her latest range of lanterns that explore the more cylindrical forms and elegance of 1950s mid-century design.

Alice and her small team work closely with a wide range of high-end Interior Designers on commercial and residential projects here in the UK and worldwide.

Alice has also created an array of specially commissioned fringes and braids to complement each lampshade collection including her hand dipped Ombré range and a new variety of handloomed linen fringing.

With the studio situated opposite Cromford Mill, a UNESCO World Heritage site - situated on the edge of the Peak District, it’s become the perfect place to create and feel inspired by the surrounding nature and history of the place and fuels a passion to create unique, small scale and sustainable lighting using a range of natural and organic fibres.

As each lampshade is made to order it helps to maintain zero waste goals whilst creating beautifully made contemporary heirloom pieces for generations to cherish and enjoy.
